Terms & Conditions
Ordering our services and accessing your account is deemed acceptance of these Terms & Conditions. Please note that Scoil may terminate your account without notice for any breach of these Terms.

If you violate any of these Terms and Conditions you will forfeit all credits and any other amounts accruing to you and there will be no refund of any fees prepaid by you. We reserve the right to amend and update these Terms and Conditions at any time as is necessary without notice. The laws of Ireland govern these Terms & Conditions.

Responsibility:

  • The school's Board Of Management and it's agents (Principal, teachers) are solely responsible for all the content on your school website. It is the school's responsibility to ensure that any and all content remains lawful, appropriate and within the terms of the schools AUP (Acceptable Use Policy)
  • Scoil.net provide the ScoilPac website 'as is'. Scoil.net does not provide any support whatsoever after the school signs off on the completion of the website. A support forum is provided to enable peer-support.
  • Paid Support: Scoil.net provide seperate and alternative sources of support such as on-site training, telephone / Logmein training and others methods which can be arranged with the school.
Your ScoilPac Account:
  • Your domain remains at all times your property as the registrant and can be transferred away from Scoil.net at any time at your sole discretion.
  • You may not store more data in your account than your allotted server space. Should your storage approach 95% we will endeavour to e-mail a warning and you will have the option to upgrade.
  • Your website account is for school use only. You must not divulge the password to any other person, and you should take reasonable precautions to ensure that it is not discovered by other people. If this is compromised you must take your own appropriate action.
  • Data stored on our servers is not guaranteed to be backed up. It is recommended that you keep a regular independent backup of all data stored on your website account. Scoil.net accept no responsibility for any loss of data, however incurred.
  • You may not run server processes (e.g.. talkers/IRC Bots) from your website.
  • Scoil.net reserve the right to remove any cgi or similar server-side program that interferes in any way with the normal running of our services.
  • Known dangerous scripts, such as Matt's formmail are not allowed.
  • We shall not be held liable for any loss or damages caused by the use or misuse, unavailability or removal of services.
  • When your account is closed, all files (including web pages, etc.) will be deleted.
  • We reserve the right to cancel your account at any time without notice.
  • We reserve the right to amend and update these Terms and Conditions at any time without notice.
  • To protect your privacy we never distribute your name or e-mail address to any third parties, unless required to under law.
  • Users must not participate in any form of un-solicited bulk e-mailing or Spam, or any form of illegal web site. Failure to observe this condition will result in immediate disconnection of service (see below).
Ownership of the ScoilPac Structure and Functionality::
  • Scoil.net reserve the right to restrict the usage of various modules and facilities in the ScoilPac as they deem appropriate. Certain functionalities which could alter or break the operation of the website are disabled. This is to ensure the smooth running of the website. Any modification of these fucntions will invalidate the contract and we reserve the right to terminate your account without notice. This is a safeguard to ensure the safe and smooth running of your ScoilPac website.
  • Users (ie the school) owns 100% of the content published by on the website
  • Scoil.net owns the structure and functionality of the ScoilPac website and provides use of this structure and functionality on a contractual basis.
  • Transfer of the ScoilPac website structure and functionality is strictly prohibited. If the contract is terminated, the website content remains the property of the client and can be transferred to other locations - however transfer of the ScoilPac 'as a whole' is strictly prohibited.

Email Abuse - Spam / UCE

  • Email Abuse and Email Misuse is a serious problem, and Scoil.net will not tolerate it.
  • Definition of UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email), or SPAM:
    • The bulk UCE, bulk promotional material, or other forms of solicitation sent via Email that advertise any IP address belonging to Scoil.net or any URL (domain) that is hosted by Scoil.net
    • Unsolicited postings to newsgroups advertising any IP or URL hosted by Scoil.net
    • The use of web pages set up on ISPs that allow SPAM-ing (also known as "ghost sites") that directly or indirectly reference customers to domains or IP addresses hosted by Scoil.net
    • Advertising, transmitting, or otherwise making available any software, program, product, or service that is designed to facilitate a means to SPAM.
    • Forging or misrepresenting message headers, whether in whole or in part, to mask the true origin of the message.
    • For further information on mail abuse, please visit the Mail Abuse Prevention System (MAPS) website.
  • Punishment for SPAM:
    • Scoil.net reserves the right to terminate, without warning, any account that violates this policy.
    • Usage of Scoil.net services constitutes acceptance and understanding of this policy.
    • Scoil.net reserves the right to decide what it considers "SPAM", "UCE", "mail bombing", or "bulk Email", and to determine from all of the evidence whether or not the Email recipients were from an "opt-in Email" list.
    • Should you choose to Email from Scoil.net servers, especially if you use mailing lists, you must read and adhere to the following guidelines, which are offered as a statement of Internet standards and best current practices for proper mailing list management and preventing Email abuse.

Credit / Payment

Bandwidth

  • If your bandwidth reaches the points where it has an adverse affect on other clients we reserve the right to disable your site until you can reduce your bandwidth usage.
  • Each scoil.net account includes a nominated amount of bandwidth, if you use more than this amount then you agree to pay for this bandwidth at the rates listed on the Scoil.net site.

Web pages

  • Commercial use of web and ftp space is permitted.
  • You will be responsible for the content of your pages, including obtaining the legal permission for any works they include and ensuring that the contents of these pages do not violate Irish or European law and the company shall not take responsibility for same.
  • You will be held responsible for and accept responsibility for any defamatory, confidential, secret or other proprietary material available via your page(s).
  • We reserve the right to remove material deemed inappropriate from your web pages, without prior notice.

Glossary of Terms

  • Warez: Widely used in cracker subcultures to denote cracked versions of commercial software, that is versions from which copy-protection has been stripped
  • IRC Bots: An automated program that operates on IRC.
  • IRC: A client-server chat system of large (often worldwide) networks
  • Shell Hosting: A hosting account used primarily for either shell commands or to run shell processes, such as IRC bouncers etc.
  • Bouncer (bnc): a bnc is short for 'bouncer'. A bnc acts as a proxy to IRC, allowing you to hide your real IP address and use a vhost (vanity host - something like 'this.is.high.quality.web.hosting.in.ireland.com').
  • Cgi: A standard for running external programs from a World-Wide Web HTTP server. CGI specifies how to pass arguments to the executing program as part of the HTTP request. It also defines a set of environment variables. Commonly, the program will generate some HTML which will be passed back to the browser but it can also request URL redirection
  • Shell: The command interpreter used to pass commands to an operating system; so called because it is the part of the operating system that interfaces with the outside world. The commonest Unix shells are the c shell (csh) and the Bourne shell (sh).
  • FTP: A communications protocol governing the transfer of files from one computer to another over a network
  • DNS: A general-purpose distributed, replicated, data query service chiefly used on Internet for translating hostnames into Internet addresses. Also, the style of hostname used on the Internet, though such a name is properly called a fully qualified domain name. DNS can be configured to use a sequence of name servers, based on the domains in the name being looked for, until a match is found
  • bash_history - .bash_logout - .bash_profile - .bashrc..: A number of files related to a shell account. These include configuration directives and logging of user actions.
